She/Her

Prop Maker, Sculptor, Ceramic Artist
imaginative, whimsical, fairy-tale-like, kawaii or cute, adorably ridiculous

For the living:room grad exhibition, I have conjured up A Familiar Place, an imagined magic shop brimming with handcrafted wares like wands, broomsticks, staffs finely carved and imbued with mystery, potions, spell scrolls, enchanted cloaks, to travel worn satchels for the most daring of quests. Each piece is carefully crafted to invite visitors into a world just beyond the ordinary. Reality often feels a little too mundane and boring for my liking, so I build spaces where magic is tangible, where those who step inside can see a whisper of the fantastical.

The journey to bring A Familiar Place to life began with a desire to create something physical, a tangible extension of the worlds I escape to in my own head. After a great deal of deliberation, I chose to craft my own magical designs rather than recreate existing ones, ensuring each piece is an original artifact of my imagination. With wood, fabric, resin, clay and paper, I conjured up a collection of objects that might be found in the back corner of a forgotten wizard’s or retired adventurer's home. Hours of research, careful craftsmanship, and hands on labour shaped these props - cutting, lathing, staining, sewing, moulding, and even scavenging for ethically sourced potion brewing ingredients.

I have always searched for a little more magic in my life. While I know the fantastical realms I imagine and crave won’t manifest on their own, this project has reminded me that imagination is its own form of spell. A Familiar Place is more than a collection of props, it is an invitation. A glimpse into the space where my mind wanders when the real world feels lacking. Here, magic is real, and I welcome you to step inside and explore.
