One of my greatest joys is immersing myself in nature and drawing inspiration from the world around me. As someone who has grown up around nature with trees and the mountains, my biggest inspiration has always been the environment. I primarily worked digitally for this project using procreate, where I developed my characters with careful attention to detail and storytelling. The final pieces are 5 printed character sheets, 1 character line up, stickers, a large poster and other items. I also created a handmade wooden sign, using raw wood slabs and wood burning techniques to etch “Cedar Springs” into it. Creating the sign helped tie in the outdoorsy theme of my project.

I began by creating a basic character lineup to explore how different body types would work together. From there, I focused on designing each character’s outfit, considering their overall vibe in relation to their space and story. Throughout this process, I kept their personalities in mind, ensuring that their appearances reflected their roles and actions within the narrative. In addition to character design, I worked on multiple versions of the 'Cedar Springs' logo, aiming for a DIY rustic aesthetic. Designing the sign was a particularly enjoyable aspect of the project, it was refreshing to work on something physical for a change. Finally, I created a poster designed to feel like a book cover, drawing viewers into the world and making them want to learn more about the characters and their stories.

Nature is my safe space and when it comes to 'living room' I bring what's outside in. Creating this small world of Canadian wildlife animals living in a world of their own makes me feel connected to nature. I've been able to research so much on their real animal characteristics and been able to throw them into the mix of the story I'm wanting to share. I want to create something that resonates with people, allowing them to connect with nature through the characters and world in a way that helps them find their own inner peace.
