He/Him

3D Artist, Videographer, Graphic Designer
informative, logical, scientific, nature

My project uses a mix of 3D graphics and interactive hardware to create an engaging art piece. The main subject of the project is a dinosaur called Psittacosaurus informally called Taco. Taco was modelled after scientific reconstructions of the dinosaur.

I started this project by modelling Taco’s form and details. Once he was built I added his “rig” or skeleton which would allow me to animate him. Following that I added the texture which helped establish the look of the rest of the project. I kept the colour choices similar to real life but added in a dash of brightness and saturation to keep a more lighthearted feel to it. For both Taco and the environment I used a paint brush texture to create a stylized look to the work. I made this using Blender for the visuals and the interaction is coded in Python. The coding was done by Ryan Wayne while I created the visuals in Blender. I chose to collaborate on this project because the coding skills required were not something I could learn from my coursework. Collaborating is also something that is often done when working on large scale projects in the professional world so I used this as a chance to practice working as a team.

Responding to the theme of living:room I chose to create an artwork that acts as entertainment. This project's theme and subject matter is built on my long time interests, video games and dinosaurs. I used my interest in video games to lead the interaction part of the project while the dinosaur is the subject. While this project acts as entertainment it also acts as a way of bringing art to life. As someone who loves history, creating art about it is a great way of bringing the past to the present. Here I wanted to take a step further and try my hand at bringing the past to life.
